kateu

Kateu?  Or Who is Kateu?

I was asking Isaac yesterday about the friends in his class.  He tells me about a girl named Kateu.   I thought it was a very interesting name and asked about her.  He informed me that she has blond hair.  Evidently Isaac likes blonds, his other friend, Jenna, is blond.

Well, all of a suddnen that light bulb moment, news flash.  It isn’t Kateu.  It is Kate U. How do I know this?  I went through Elementry School known as Kimberlee L. (or sometimes Kim L., but we won’t go there).  There was Kimberly A.  Kimberly C.  Kimberlee L. (that was me) and Kimberly R.

So, Kate U.  I wonder who the other Kate is.

We happen to like the name Kate, but  we spelled it Cait and since it isn’t a first name she won’t be known as Cait K. or CaitK when she is in first grade.

SEP’s

We had SEP’s for Marina and Nick yesterday.   This is the same as the old parent-teacher conferences.  Isaac’s teacher is on maternity leave with a new baby boy.

I think both kids have good teachers for them.  Marina’s teacher doesn’t let her give excuses and is available for her to ask questions.  Marina is doing well in all subjects, even the ones that tend to be really tough for her.  She is so clever and creative.   I loved looking through her projects and artwork.  Marina works hard in school and is a good praticipator.

Nicolas is a hard worker and is doing well in almost everything.  Those subjects he is struggling in are because he is not a strong reader.  He goes to reading club one day a week so he can get extra help with his reading.  We think once his reading falls into place better, he will do better on the other subject he is struggling with.  Nicolas doesn’t goof off, or play at school until after his school work is done.   He is so sweet and kind at school.   He is well liked by peers, his teacher, and the staff.   I enjoyed looking at his projects too.

On a side note:  Isaac is also a good match with his teacher.  She has worked very hard with me as a team to work on some behavoir issues we were having.  He is no longer ‘on contract’ which means he has improved to the point he doesn’t need that level of accountability.  He is so sweet with his teacher and she likes him very much.  I did talk with her on the phone one night.  Her and her substitue are in daily contact and keep me informed to Isaac’s progress.

I am grateful my kids alll seem to have good teachers this year.  A good teacher makes so much difference in my children’s lives and education.

Halloween Parade

A gaggle of little witches, followed by a bunch of little Harry Potters.  Next came the half a dozen vampires and a couple of hippies….and thus went the Halloween Parade out K Elementry School.

It seems that within each class there was a heavy influence of what they would dress as for Halloween.

I admit my favorite was the gaggle of little witches.  Adorable.

Marina is a Greecian Goddess, Nick just wore a Halloween t-shirt.  Isaac was a transformer.  Zoe came in her costume as a cute little lady bug.

O.k. I admit.  I enjoyed this one.  I had fun.  Zoe had fun.  Loved watching all the little ones dressed up.  The 6th graders do their little dance.  Thriller, I think?

And one more day until Halloween NIght.

Happenings Books

(any of those fund raiser sales)

Isaac come home from school yesterday all excited to sell me a happenings books.

“But Mom, You can go all over the world with this book.  See this card.  You can go all over the world.”

“Even China”

The evening goes on and he is all excited about this book.  Trying to sell it to me.  Carrying it around with him everywhere.

He realizes he needs to up the anty in order for me to buy into this.

“Mom, the money from this book goes to help poor little children who don’t have any health care,  so they can go to the doctor.”

Reason # 37

I hate public school.

One week.  We have been in school for one week and the sickies are here.  By Saturday 3 girls had colds.  And today one boy came home from school sick.

Yes, I am aware people get sick even when not in school.  But not nearly so prevalent.  Schools are little breeding grounds for germs.

So, one week in and the sickies found us.

Lets hope this one is round is short lived and mild.  Maybe it will even skip over a few of us.

First day of School

And it wasn’t so bad, really.  Well, for me.  The kids had a great time.

Marina is in 6th grade, Nick in 4th and Isaac is in first grade.  He is so excited to be eating lunch at school.

I was able to get a couple of things done that I have been putting off doing until they were in school.  So, I got a lot accomplished.  And of course enjoyed spending time with my babies and letting them be babies after a busy summer.

One more day

of all day with my children.  Then ~sniff, sniif~ I have to turn them over to the public school system for the school year.

I could wail and whine about this but it won’t change the fact that my sweet littles will be gone *all day* and I will be home.  At least I get to be home with my babies still :)

I’ve been working on maintaining a positive attitude.  I am sure you will see lists here about the ‘pros’ of things I am dreading (like winter).  So…for my first list of pros…

I’m having a hard time coming up with some things

10.  Schedule.  Children tend to do better on a good schedule and school forces us into one.

9.    My kids are looking forward to school much more than I am.  So, they will enjoy it.

8.  I get more one on two time with my babies.  And I really sure enjoy them.  I actually relish one on one time with them.

7.  Enjoying one on one time snuggling with my babies.

6.  All day to clean before my tornado child walks in the door and un does all that hard work.  It is up to you to figure out which one of my children is my tornado child.

5.  It is sure easier to go shopping with fewer people

4.  It is sure easier to load the car with fewer people

3. The babies all to myself.  I don’t have to share them with their bigger siblings

2.  nap time (except no one in this house takes naps)

and the number one reason to enjoy the school year starting

1.  Homecoming!!!!  The moment they get off the bus and run home.
