Or maybe they are the drylands. I took the kids to the wildlife refuge just of Gentile in Layton. It wasn’t nearly as neat at the Bear River Bird Refuge, but it was something fun to do on a Saturday afternoon. Lots of space. We weren’t prepared and didn’t have any water though. Nick climbed in the mud and well….that was a mess.
There is a sign on one of the towers that says “Lake level at peak, 1980’s” or something like that. Well, from where we were at you couldn’t even see the lake! So that shows the difference. In fact, I think there are now houses well below the lake level.

I don’t sleep well when Warren was out of town. He has been out of town all week and I have not been sleeping well. I am pretty restless until about 4 a.m. listing to everything that goes ‘bump’ in the night. Then sleep o.k. from 4 to 7 unless the baby needs something.
Last night Warren decided to surprise us and got home. Just for one night before he is off to his next adventure. Ahhh, I was going to be able to get a good nights sleep to gear up for the next few days. Since he was home, I had help putting everyone to bed, so I went to bed about an hour earlier than usual. I felt bad leaving him up with Zoe. But I was so tired.
I was settled for my good nights sleeps. Ahhh, bliss. I knew I would wake a couple of times with the sweet baby. But it would be o.k. She re-settles pretty easily.
Guess who was up *all night* yes *all night*
Sweet baby Lily
She slept poorly from 11 to 2. Was up from 2 to 6. and slept poorly that last hour before I had to get up.
But we don’t always get one one one time in such a busy household and it is nice having time with just her.

Marina- {{{big hug}}}
Isaac-{{{ big hug }}}
Nick- lifts his arms out big like he is going to give me a nice big hug.
wraps his arms around the space around me and says
“Air Hug”

And it wasn’t so bad, really. Well, for me. The kids had a great time.
Marina is in 6th grade, Nick in 4th and Isaac is in first grade. He is so excited to be eating lunch at school.
I was able to get a couple of things done that I have been putting off doing until they were in school. So, I got a lot accomplished. And of course enjoyed spending time with my babies and letting them be babies after a busy summer.

Or more specifically, the five virgins who were unprepared.
Twice this week I have felt like those five virgins. Unprepared for a given situation.
Tuesday I went to Cherry Hill with my sister. I has having a slow, lazy morning. I had a sick little boy the night before and wasn’t sure what my plans were going to be. Katie really wanted to go to Cherry Hill. When Isaac woke up he was feeling better and wanted to go. But because I hadn’t spent the morning preparing, I felt hassled and unprepared. I left the house messier than I am use to and felt rushed and stressed getting out the door.
Friday I had a NILMDTS session. I had never used my speedlight. We don’t have a printer and I didn’t have forms printed. I don’t have business cards yet. I walked into the room not exactly sure how to use my speedlight. We needed to print forms at the hospital, and I am relying on the other photographer for contact info for the parents. Luckily I was able to go with another photographer.
These were both situations I knew were possibilities at any given time. I knew we planned on Cherry Hill. I just didn’t know how it would all work out with a sick little boy. I knew we would be going somewhere and yet, I still chose not to prepare.
I know I am on the NILMDTS call list. I just haven’t gotten around to printing forms, practicing with my speedlight, or ordering business cards.
It is not fun to feel so unprepared for things I should be prepared for. There is enough in life that you can’t plan and prepare for that I need to work on those things I can have under control a little bit.

of all day with my children. Then ~sniff, sniif~ I have to turn them over to the public school system for the school year.
I could wail and whine about this but it won’t change the fact that my sweet littles will be gone *all day* and I will be home. At least I get to be home with my babies still
I’ve been working on maintaining a positive attitude. I am sure you will see lists here about the ‘pros’ of things I am dreading (like winter). So…for my first list of pros…
******
I’m having a hard time coming up with some things
******
Per David Letterman Style
******
10. Schedule. Children tend to do better on a good schedule and school forces us into one.
9. My kids are looking forward to school much more than I am. So, they will enjoy it.
8. I get more one on two time with my babies. And I really sure enjoy them. I actually relish one on one time with them.
7. Enjoying one on one time snuggling with my babies.
6. All day to clean before my tornado child walks in the door and un does all that hard work. It is up to you to figure out which one of my children is my tornado child.
5. It is sure easier to go shopping with fewer people
4. It is sure easier to load the car with fewer people
3. The babies all to myself. I don’t have to share them with their bigger siblings
2. nap time (except no one in this house takes naps)
and the number one reason to enjoy the school year starting
1. Homecoming!!!! The moment they get off the bus and run home.

This little guy says the funniest things. He is such a Joy.
Yesterday we were talking about age and what is old. I asked him
Me “How old am I going to live?”
Isaac “Just a second, let me listen to your heart. It will tell me”.
(He put his head on my chest for a moment and listened to my heart)
Then he said “You will live to be 101 or maybe 105.”
Me “Wow, that is a long time”.
Isaac “It is just a couple of years”.
